Solvay Process Engineering Department Manager in BE, Belgium


  • The Process Department Manager at Group Engineering&Construction Asia-Pacific Zone (GEC AP) participates in industrial projects, trouble shooting and improvement of the equipment and processes of the Global Business Units assets located within the Zone.

  • He/She analyzes, develops and implements standards and best practices (such as Excellence programs), in order to improve the competitiveness of the production processes of the company, while promoting and ensuring safety and environment regulations.

  • He/She manages a team of Senior process engineers (5 pers.), to ensure and provide up-to- standard technical services to the Global Business Units and the production plants, and to conceive and design industrial projects, against the lowest possible cost and in a sustainable way.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the process engineering activities related to CAPEX Projects (from Design phases to Execution one), including the support of commissioning and startup/ramp-up, and the Technical assistance of the existing units.

  • Define the level of expertise and technical skills required and allocate the right resource. Identify and address technical and organizational blocking points and implement the trainings needed to develop competencies and behaviors.

  • Ensure and maintain contacts with Technical representatives of the Global Business Units to jointly identify value creation opportunities for the Asia Pacific plants (troubleshooting/improvement of processes and technologies).

  • Promote and participate to the networking activities with other support functions based in Europe, and GBUs Process Engineering Teams, as well as other industrial departments (HSE, Manufacturing Excellence,…).

  • Participate to the deployment of the best-in- classes excellence programs (ASSET Performance, Process Control Excellence,…) in accordance with the Industrial vision and strategy within the Zone.

  • Master degree in Chemical/Process Engineering

  • At least 10 years of experience in the Industrial Process Technology domain, of which at least 3 years in an Engineering managerial role (even small team) and in an European working conditions

  • Leadership and open-mindedness skills in order to supervise, motivate, coach and develop the members of the Team, even from Technical standpoint

  • Have growth mindset and is agile to changing context with Global Business Units customers

  • Able to create an intimacy relationship both with our customers in Asia Pacific, and with our partners in Europe

  • Good communication skills with a collaborative mindset

  • Willing to get an expatriate opportunity in Shanghai, China

  • Able to operate in a global multi-cultural organization

  • Full proficiency in English is compulsory. Other languages (Chinese and/or French) would be appreciated.


  • After a first induction period in our Central offices based both in Lyon/France and Brussels/ Belgium, you will be moved to our Zone engineering office based in Shanghai, China
